Sorry I'm late on updating this website! There are a few things I wanted to go over!
1. I have been sending home "home notes" that will update you about your child's day- if you want a specific question answered feel free to text me the question so that I can start answering it on the home notes. 2. I am going to start tracking aggressions and elopement and putting that data on the home notes for you to see. My goal with this is so that you will see the progress and improvement that your child is making. 3. This week we are working on IEP goals, Speech new word of the week (help), Taking turns in social skills, and the STAR program. As always if you have any questions feel free to text me! We made it through the first week! Thank you for being patient as my paras and I work out the kinks. LOTS of changes happened for your kids this week and they handled it like champs! We have already seen improvements and successes, which makes my heart happy <3
Week Two- We will be starting the STAR Program Level 1 & Assessment, along with pushing IEP goals and really focusing on appropriate behavior. The STAR program is behavior and communication based. I am so excited for this program, I know that it will help every kid tremendously. Speech and OT are also going to start pushing in next week EVERYDAY! Super exciting because they will be a huge part of your kids success this year also. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to text me (801)362-7278 or email me [email protected]. Thanks for all you do! Just wanted to write a quick THANK YOU note. Thank you so much for all of the donations and support! I know that a new teacher can be scary for not only the kids but for the parents and families too. I loved meeting those who came to Back to School Night and hopefully I was able to answer your questions! For those who didn't, feel free to email me or text me with any questions you may have, or to set up a time to meet. Reminder that the first day back is Tuesday August 22! Excited to have 9 amazing students in my class<3
Welcome Letter!
Welcome to our class! This year our class is a 4th-6th grade combination class with a focus on increasing communication and behavior skills. I'm so excited to have your child be a part of our class! This letter will provide you a lot of information and hopefully answer some of your questions. Please look over this together with the adults involved in your child's education. If you have any additional questions/concerns, know I'm only a phone call, text, or email away. I will also be sending a getting to know you questionnaire where I look forward to learning more about your child. Please fill out and bring to back to school night on Wednesday August 16th from 6:00-7:30. My name is Savanna Caver! I have been working with kids with Autism for 3 years at Spectrum Academy. During my time here at Spectrum, I have been on the Behavior team working as an assistant to the Behavior Specialist. As an assistant I deescalated and processed with kids K-10, performed ABA, wrote Behavior Intervention Plans, worked with aggression and much more. I was born and raised in Provo, Utah and have always loved dancing, being with my family and working with kids. My sister started as a 2nd grade teacher at Spectrum a few years ago, and told me to come apply. I've loved Spectrum ever since! I am so excited to start this year in a new role as the teacher of your amazing kids! Look for the sign up/availability sheet at back to school night. A large opportunity to volunteer is for our field trips. We will keep you posted asap on the exact dates and times of field trips. The field trips are a great chance to have as many parents/guardians as possible for our students to have the smoothest and enjoyable field trip as possible. Field trip volunteers will help transport and enjoy the time with their child. Supplies & Wish List Classroom supply list (to be kept at school and shared in the class). If you child’s birthday falls on a weekend, it will be celebrated the closest school day (i.e. birthday on Saturday, we will celebrate on Friday). For students with summer birthdays, we will celebrate their ½ birthday. It is optional to bring in treats for their birthday celebration, but if you chose to, make sure it's store purchased. We will be celebrating birthdays the last sensory break of our day. Class parties are similar, I will let you know more about each class party as they come closer, but we will celebrate a few holidays throughout the year (Halloween, Christmas, Valentine's Day, etc). Let me know if you do not wish to have your child participate in celebrations. Attendance/Illness/Early Checkout Please keep me posted if your child will be out of school, I have my contact information above (text, email, or call). Attendance will be taken and marked as either excused or unexcused. Excused includes illness or doctor appointments (with a note). Unexcused include family vacations or running late. If your child is feeling ill (flu like symptoms), please keep them home until they are fever free for 24 hours (without medications). If you will be picking up your child early, come into the office to check them out not to the classroom. Other Notes Many children have similar or the same items (bags, toys, coats, etc), please label things from home with your child’s name. We do our best at keeping track of everyone’s personal items, but we can’t guarantee that items from home will not get lost or broken. On the flip side, we do our best to check pockets as students come in the morning and leave in the afternoon, but if you can help by if you don’t recognize a toy, it may have ended up in their pocket/backpack. As much as possible, keep toys and extra items at home. |
